Read

cover of The Hundred Year Diet by Susan YagerI finished Breaking the Rules by Suzanne Brockmann and it was everything I hoped for in an engaging book that captured my attention and didn’t let go. Izzy Zanella is one of my favorite heroes ever. He’s a Navy SEAL who sings old pop songs as a kind of commentary on whatever is happening — what’s not to like?

I finished The Hundred Year Diet by Susan Yager in time to write a review for Weekend Cooking: Book Review: The Hundred Year Diet by Susan Yager. I’ve never read anything quite like it — a history of diets and weight in America that goes back much farther than 1980, which is where most discussions start.

I also finished Drop Dead Healthy by A.J. Jacobs because I had a head start on it, reading about half of it before the Ireland trip. This is the funniest book I’ve read in my long term quest to read books that support my healthy lifestyle. I’ll write about it later this week — maybe I’ll focus on the food chapters and put it up for Weekend Cooking.

Reading

The 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy FerrissI’m still reading The Bro-Magnet by Lauren Baratz-Logsted on my phone — almost done! It’s fun.

I slowed down on my reading of Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg. I need to get back to that one because I was really enjoying it.

I’m reading The 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss, rather unexpectedly. I’ve known about this book for awhile but was put off by the title and cover given my long heritage of Puritan Work Ethic. But I kept hearing things about the book so I took a look. It’s helping me think about what I really want in life and what I don’t want. There are surprisingly easy ways to get more of the first and less of the latter once I allow myself a creative approach.

Our Diversity Book Club meets on Thursday to discuss Searching for Whitopia by Rich Benjamin. I’m on track to finish it by then, but I’ll need to stay on top of it.

Will Read

I said last week that I was feeling guilty for not reading The Color of Tea by Hannah Tunnicliffe, a review book. But, I would have felt more guilty if I didn’t get the book club selection read so it took precedence. The Color of Tea is next.

When I finish The 4-Hour Workweek, I think I’ll look at The Good Food Revolution by Will Allen.
